The ‘Colonial History of America’ course introduces the early modern colonization of the United States from the first European explorations in the late fifteenth century until the foundation of the small Plymouth Colony by William Bradford in 1620. The course aims at providing students with a general overview of the early history of the USA to enable them to engage in critical discussions about Colonial America. We will have access to a wide range of resources that include lectures, books, articles, web timelines, maps and visuals. They will help us understand the early history of the USA during colonization. By the end of the course, students should be able to analyze historical documents and maps and be familiar with key dates related to American colonization. They should also engage in critical discussions and write academic compositions about several aspects of Colonial America (1492 – 1620).
